So here's one more acronym to throw into our lives as parents. CMPI. Cow's Milk Protein Intolerance.
Laney was recently diagnosed with this : /
Here's the story:
Delaney is such a sweet little girl. She came out relaxed and chill and easily calmed by her mama. Week 4 and week 5 she became increasingly fussy. The Dr. had told us to watch for this and it would peak around week 6 and then go back down. Perfect. I was able to excuse that away. She still had "baby acne" but it would come and go and I thought that was weird. I read about heat rashes and excused that away. Her diapers were different, but she and Landon both had colds. So we talked to the Dr. and to the Lactation Consultant and they said it was possibly the cold, Dr. was sure of it. Then there was the cold. Laney was stuffy, but no fever. Not a lot of snot. But since Landon had a cold and an ear infection we excused it away. There was also the spitting up - but babies spit up right? Lastly, there was the fact that she was almost impossible to put down every night. She was screaming for a few hrs before bed and would fall asleep and then wake up like a million times. We read about a "witching hr" and figured that's what it was and again excused it away. MISTAKE.
A few nights after our colds visit to the Dr. we were up all.night.long. This is not the "all night" you talk about when you have a newborn and are up every two hrs for an hr or so. I mean all night. We only slept in shifts as the other took her and bounced her or drove her or fed her. Then the next night, we did it again. But now we were adding all day screaming and no sleeping during the day either. After night two and a morning of this, I couldn't take it anymore. I asked a few mommas if I should take her in or not. My gut was yes and she was in pain, but I knew I was running on little sleep and didn't want to be dramatic. Then we started finding BLOOD. Blood in my baby's diaper. Heart-breaking. How has she been in pain all this time and I've been missing it?!
So we took her in and she continued to have bloody diapers for hours until they could see her. The dr. automatically thought CMPI and weighed her. She hadn't gained an oz since we'd been in the week before. :( So they temporarily decided that was it and we'd check again in a few days after being off dairy.
So we went back today and she is doing SO much better. She's gaining, no blood, better skin, better sleep, less crying etc. We are SO thankful she's feeling better and that our Dr. was able to figure it out. We just love our sweet girl so much! We can't wait for week 2-3 of being off dairy when she has it all out of her system and is feeling better!!
whoa. that just sounds so difficult. i'm sooo glad you got that all figured out, oh my goodness!
