Yesterday we celebrated being married for four years! Four years and a day ago was an incredible and magical day. I wouldn't have changed it at all. It was beautiful and emotional and fun! Every time I think back to that day I remember thinking "I've never loved this man more than I do RIGHT now". Well, now I look back to that day and think how I am fairly certain we at 10 times more in love today than we were 4 years ago! It's crazy to think about. The world constantly tells us that marriage is hard (and ya...it's not always easy!) and they tell us how we will inevitably fall "out of love" and just stick together for the rest of our lives b/c we said we would. That has sooooo NOT been my experience. Every day, every year, and all special moments (like Landon's birth, finding out we were pregnant twice with completely healthy babies, buying a house, etc) are just another opportunity for me to love my husband a little more. For me to see something else in him that reminds me of how lucky I am to have landed him ;) Esp when he wakes up early on our anniversary morning (and let's me sleep in!) and I wake up to beautiful heart shaped pancakes! What a delicious treat!!
So a few weeks back we sat down and started looking at our finances (we just started FPU with Dave Ramsey and I'm now a SAHM and bring in just a tiny bit of income each month) and just realized we cannot hack the normal staycation weekend at a resort that we've always done for our anniversary. We were both disappointed at first. Then we started devising a plan. Grammy and Grandpa graciously offered to take L so we could be free. That was a great start! Then we found giftcards to Olive Garden AND to Harkins. Now this may sound like a lame and norm date for most. But we have no entertainment envelope nor do we have an eating out envelope. These are things we've decided to sacrifice for a short amount of time until we are on our feet a bit better. So this would be a TREAT! Not to mention that we've seen one movie since L was born and he was on my boob the whole time. Not exactly the romantic and relaxing experience I was looking for :) So we went to the movie first and LOVED it (the help, it's a great one) and then decided to go to Target. We flirted and played and looked and dreamed. It was a great part of our date! We finished it off with some Olive Garden and then drove home. We knew we had the majority of the day to do what we wanted. We chose sleep. We set no alarms and did not wake up until 11! We both laughed and were shocked at our sleeping abilities! Guess we needed that huh? :) We had the most wonderful, playful, and relaxing weekend. I guess it just showed us! We do not need to spend hundreds of $s to achieve this! Of course we will totally budget for a resort next year! But this was a really fun and great and affordable way for us to get some alone time this year and not have to do dishes! :)
